Master Higaonna Kanryo
(other pronunciation: Higashionna) (1853-1915)
He studied martial arts in China, and after returning to Okinawa combined them with the "Te", the local fighting art, creating the Naha Te.

Master Miyagi Chojun
(1888-1953)
He was the heir of Higaonna.
He was responsible for creating the name Goju-Ryu. He taught at the police academy in Okinawa. One of his main merit is the systematization of the teaching method of Naha-te.

Master Higa Seko
(1898-1966)
He first studied the Naha-te under Master Higaonna. On the death of Higaonna at the age of sixteen, he continued the study of Goju-Ryu Kempo under Master Miyagi. Higa Sensei was the first Master of Master Toguchi.

Master Toguchi Seikichi
(1917-1998)
Defined: "The last Bushi" (other definition of the Samurai), heir to Master Miyagi, developed the Shorei-Kan system creating many exercises: Kata, Bunkai, Kiso Kumite etc. He began studying Goju-Ryu Kempo with Master Higa and continued with Master Miyagi himself. His definition of Kaisai is well known:
"The Kaisai is the art of knowing how to smile in any situation."
